MonDocteur was a French startup established in June 2013 by co-founders Thibault Lanthier, Benoit Bouteille, and Nicolas Desrichard. The company operated as an online platform allowing patients to find and book appointments with healthcare professionals. The idea for the company stemmed from founder Thibault Lanthier's personal experiences, viewing the patient's journey to find care as a significant challenge. Lanthier, a serial entrepreneur, had prior experience as a Business Analyst and Head of Marketing at Eurosport and co-founded Westwing before launching MonDocteur.
The platform's business model was based on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) framework, targeting healthcare professionals as its primary client base. For a monthly subscription fee, practitioners received access to a suite of tools that went beyond simple appointment scheduling. These services included a configurable web-based medical calendar, automated SMS reminders to reduce patient no-shows, and an online profile to enhance their visibility. The service was free for patients, who could use the platform to locate doctors via geolocation, view their availability, and book appointments 24/7. The platform also provided details on doctors' billing sectors and accepted payment methods.
Financially, MonDocteur was supported by investors including Lagardère Active, which became the majority shareholder after investing €14.4 million. By 2017, four years after its inception, the company had grown to 200 employees and served 12,000 healthcare professionals. In a significant market consolidation, MonDocteur was acquired by its main competitor, Doctolib, in July 2018. Following the acquisition, the two companies merged their operations under the Doctolib brand, combining their teams to create a larger entity in the European e-health sector.
