Moma Protocol is a decentralized finance (DeFi) solution that addresses liquidity, scalability, and speculation demands in the crypto lending market. Launched in December 2020 and founded by Ocean Liao, the protocol was developed to provide liquidity for long-tail crypto assets, which are digital assets with low trading volume and market awareness. Liao, an entrepreneur in the blockchain industry since 2017, previously built projects like the EOS node Gravity, the community app Lichang.io, and the TokenUp Wallet. Moma Protocol was incubated and supported by Lichang, which has over a million registered users.

The protocol's core technology is a proprietary smart contract factory that produces, manages, accelerates, and aggregates lending markets, creating an ecosystem for expanding lending liquidity and market diversity. This allows any user to create and operate their own customizable lending pools. The platform's main components include the Factory, Launch Pool, Lending Pool, and Aggregator. Launch Pools are customizable pre-lending pools for community token distribution, while Lending Pools are over-collateralized markets that support borrowing and lending for any crypto asset. These two pools create a self-sustaining business cycle, with the Launch Pool creating lending scenarios for the Lending Pool, which in turn generates interest revenue. The Aggregator is an analytical tool that helps users with personalized lending, borrowing, and mining strategies.

In May 2021, Moma Protocol completed a $2.25 million funding round led by Fundamental Labs and SevenX Ventures, with participation from numerous other venture capital firms. The native utility and governance token of the protocol is MOMAT, an ERC-20 token. MOMAT token holders can participate in governance, receive a portion of platform revenue, and stake their tokens for incentives. The protocol also features a unique risk management system that includes a Crypto Asset Risk Rating Database and a "Whistleblower" mechanism, where users can stake MOMAT tokens to report risk information and earn rewards.
