Modern Technical Fund
Pre-seed and seed VC for technical founders.
Modern Technical Fund (MTF) is a venture capital firm established in 2024 by Amanda Robson, also known as "Robby". Operating as a solo General Partner, Robson launched the San Francisco-based firm to invest in technical founders at the earliest stages of company building. Before starting MTF, Robson was a Partner at Cowboy Ventures and an investor at Norwest Venture Partners, gaining nine years of experience investing in early-stage enterprise software. She started the fund after observing that founders were moving faster than traditional venture capital could often handle and required a partner who could match their pace and accelerate their growth.
The firm focuses on pre-seed and seed-stage startups in the United States and Israel, particularly those building infrastructure, data, and security companies. MTF's business model is centered on making initial investments of $500,000 to $1 million and being the first check investor, often leading or co-leading rounds. The fund, which raised $22 million, plans to back 20 to 25 startups and has already invested in seven companies, including FinTe and RunReveal. MTF operates with a hands-on, founder-centric approach, providing support from early product strategy to gaining customer traction. The firm leverages a purpose-built network of technical sellers, buyers, and leaders from companies like Databricks, Cloudflare, Drata, and Anthropic to help its portfolio companies validate products and accelerate their go-to-market strategies.
