Modelinia was a cross-platform media brand focused on providing in-depth coverage of the lives and work of supermodels. Founded in February 2009 by Desiree Gruber and Liane Mullin, with William Fisher also listed as a co-founder, the company was based in New York City. Gruber, who served as CEO, and Mullin, the Chief Strategy Officer, aimed to create a direct access point for fans to connect with the world of fashion and beauty through the perspectives of top models.
The company operated as a global media platform, featuring breaking news, exclusive interviews with established and up-and-coming models, and extensive coverage of major fashion events like the international Fashion Weeks and the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Its content was distributed through its website, a dedicated blog with guest writers like supermodel Paulina Porizkova, and a limited-edition magazine launched during New York Fashion Week in 2009 to build brand visibility. Modelinia's business model revolved around creating and distributing engaging fashion and lifestyle content. To expand its reach, the company partnered with Twitter for official Fashion Week coverage in 2010 and broadcasted a TV show on NYCTV 25, which was also available on Hulu. In September 2011, Modelinia launched an iPhone app to provide mobile access to its content, host live events, and foster a fan community.
Modelinia secured $5 million in a Series A funding round on April 10, 2008, with Polaris Partners being the sole institutional investor. Despite its initial press recognition from outlets like New York Magazine, Style.com, and an appearance on the Today Show, the company is now considered deadpooled.
