Mirror42, founded in 2004 in Amsterdam by Karel van der Poel, operated as a provider of SaaS performance management solutions. The company initially began with an on-premises business intelligence tool, achieving profitability by 2008 without external funding. Recognizing the shift in the market, the founder re-engineered the entire product stack to be cloud-native around 2010. A significant milestone was the launch of the KPI Library, a crowd-sourced repository of over 6,500 key performance indicator templates that attracted more than 400,000 users. The firm's core offering was a platform that enabled clients to gather data from various IT management applications to analyze performance trends through dashboards, scorecards, and predictive modeling. In July 2013, ServiceNow acquired Mirror42 for approximately $13.3 million. The acquisition was a strategic move for ServiceNow to integrate advanced analytics into its enterprise IT cloud platform. Mirror42's technology was subsequently rebranded as ServiceNow Performance Analytics, extending ServiceNow's reporting capabilities and allowing customers to optimize their IT and enterprise service processes. The founder, Karel van der Poel, joined ServiceNow and continued to lead and expand the Performance Analytics product.
