Minerva Labs is a cybersecurity company specializing in preemptive endpoint threat prevention, with a significant focus on ransomware. It was founded in 2014 by Eddy Bobritsky (CEO), Erez Breiman (CTO), and Omri Segev Moyal. Bobritsky is a cybersecurity expert with over 15 years of experience, including time in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Navy's cyber units, while Breiman was a former software architect at CyberArk.
The company developed an anti-evasion platform designed to block advanced and unknown threats before they can execute and cause damage. Instead of relying on traditional detection methods like signatures or behavioral patterns, Minerva's technology creates a simulated environment on the endpoint that deceives malware, causing it to disarm or terminate itself. This approach is particularly effective against evasive threats like file-less attacks, malicious documents, and ransomware that are designed to bypass conventional security defenses. The platform, known as Minerva Armor, works alongside existing Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions to reduce alerts and enhance protection without degrading system performance.
In March 2023, Minerva Labs was acquired by Rapid7, a leader in cloud risk and threat detection, for approximately $38 million in a cash and stock deal. The acquisition was intended to integrate Minerva's anti-evasion and ransomware prevention technology into Rapid7's Managed Detection and Response (MDR) services, extending these capabilities from the endpoint to the cloud. Prior to the acquisition, Minerva Labs had raised $7.5 million in funding from investors including StageOne Ventures, Amplify Partners, and Webb Investment Network.
