Mighty Pea, a UK-based company, was founded in 2018 by brothers Tom and Nick Watkins. The duo from Yorkshire launched their venture from a basement in Leeds, introducing the first pea-based milk to the UK market. Tom Watkins, prior to co-founding Mighty Pea, served as the Director of Business Development at NAMS Ltd.
The company specialized in producing a range of dairy-free milk alternatives derived from yellow split peas. Their flagship product, Mighty Pea M.lk, was offered in both original and unsweetened versions. The product was formulated to be a direct substitute for cow's milk, with a focus on high protein and calcium content, and fortified with essential nutrients like iodine, vitamin D, and B12. Mighty Pea's products were also free from common allergens such as nuts, gluten, and soy.
Mighty Pea operated on a business-to-consumer model, distributing its products through major UK retailers including Holland & Barrett, Morrisons, Ocado, and Asda. The brand experienced rapid growth, expanding its presence to over 3,000 stores across the country.
Despite its initial success, Mighty Pea entered administration in June 2025, ceasing its operations.
