MeeDoc

MeeDoc was a Finnish telemedicine company founded in 2012 by Mikko Kiiskilä (CEO), Juho Koponen (CTO), and Wille Komulainen (CMO). The company was established by a team of doctors, designers, and engineers with a mission to provide a more accessible and affordable alternative to traditional primary healthcare.

The company developed a mobile application that connected patients with general practitioners, nurses, and specialists for remote consultations. Its platform allowed users to communicate with healthcare providers via text messages, photos, or live video chat. A key feature was the ability to have prescriptions sent directly to a patient's preferred pharmacy anywhere in Europe, underscoring its focus on convenience. MeeDoc's application was a CE-certified medical device, compliant with HIPAA and FDA standards, highlighting its commitment to regulatory and data security standards.

MeeDoc operated on a dual revenue model. For individual consumers, it offered a pay-per-consultation service, with prices such as €34 in Ireland. The company also provided a subscription-based model for corporate clients, charging a monthly fee per employee for unlimited use of the service. This strategy targeted both individual patients seeking immediate care and businesses looking to offer healthcare benefits to their employees.

The firm successfully raised a total of $5.3 million in funding over two rounds. This included a $1.5 million seed round in August 2014 from various Finnish healthcare industry stakeholders and a subsequent Series A round of €3.5 million (approximately $3.8 million) in April 2015, led by German digital health venture capital firm XLHEALTH. These funds were intended to fuel its expansion across Europe. Following its initial launch in Finland, MeeDoc expanded its operations to Ireland and had plans to enter the UK, Spanish, Swiss, and Nordic markets. However, the company ceased operations, and PitchBook records its status as "Out of Business" as of August 2017. More recently, in July 2022, the Meedoc.com domain was acquired by Welzo, a UK digital healthcare platform, to accelerate the launch of its own online GP consultation service.
