In 1992, as Poland's market economy was taking shape, Piotr Trojanek identified a critical need. Veterinarians across the country required a reliable, consolidated source for supplies and medicine. With this insight, Trojanek founded Medivet, a company designed to be a comprehensive importer and distributor of veterinary products. The business model was straightforward: provide a one-stop shop for veterinary practices, handling the complexities of sourcing and distribution so that vets could focus on animal care. The company grew steadily, establishing itself as a leading player in the Polish animal health market. By 2013, Medivet had captured the attention of a major global player. In a significant move, the American healthcare giant Henry Schein announced its agreement to acquire a majority stake in the Polish distributor. This transaction, completed in 2014, was a strategic play for Henry Schein, using Medivet as a gateway to expand its animal health business into Eastern Europe. The story didn't end there. The animal health industry continued its trend of global consolidation. In 2019, Medivet underwent another transformation, becoming part of Covetrus, a newly-formed international veterinary conglomerate spun out of Henry Schein's animal health business. Today, Medivet operates as a key Polish component of this global entity, leveraging international resources while maintaining its deep-rooted knowledge of the local market.
