Medipee GmbH, founded in 2017 by Thomas Prokopp, Paul Bandi, and Frank Willems, is a German medical technology company focused on digital and automated urinalysis. The company's creation was spurred by a personal experience of one of the founders, whose grandmother passed away following an operation for a condition that could have been detected earlier with regular urine analysis. The system consists of two main components: a smartphone app and an optional hardware device that attaches to a standard toilet. The device, functioning as a "plug and play" solution, automatically collects a urine sample using a test strip on an extendable arm, performs the analysis, and disposes of the strip. Data is then transmitted via Bluetooth to the Medipee app, which records, evaluates, and stores the results. The app can also function as a standalone digital micturition diary, allowing users to track fluid intake, urination frequency, and other parameters.

Medipee's business model targets both individual users for preventative health monitoring at home and professional clients such as nursing homes and clinics for therapy monitoring. Revenue is generated through the sale of the hardware device and consumable test strip cartridges, which are designed to analyze a wide array of health indicators. These include markers for urinary tract infections, kidney disease, diabetes, dehydration, pregnancy, and ovulation. The company plans to offer its app as a reimbursable Digital Health Application (DiGA) in Germany. Medipee has secured funding from various sources, including grants from the European Union and a Seed round led by sanitary products manufacturer Geberit and nursing home operator WBG Holding GmbH.
