Marsplay was a community-focused e-commerce platform for discovering and shopping for fashion and beauty accessories. Founded in 2017 by Misbah Ashraf and Ayush Shukla in Delhi, India, the company aimed to bridge the gap between social media content and commerce. The platform enabled users to discover and purchase fashion trends through personalized and curated visual content created by a community of influencers. Influencers could create their own visual storefronts, share style stories, and tag products, making the content shoppable for users. This model provided a platform for creators to build their personal brands and monetize their content.
The business operated on an affiliate marketing model with fashion brands. Marsplay raised a total of $1.02 million over two funding rounds, with investors including Venture Highway. The company's vision was to create a more relatable and humanized online shopping experience where users could get style advice from people they connect with rather than just brands. In February 2021, Marsplay was acquired by Foxy, a beauty shopping and live video commerce app, in a deal reportedly valued between Rs 8-10 crore. Following the acquisition, the Marsplay team joined Foxy, and the co-founders departed.
