Maple Gold Mines Ltd. is a Canadian-based gold exploration company focused on the acquisition and development of mineral properties. Incorporated in 2010 and previously known as Aurvista Gold Corporation, the company rebranded in November 2017. Its primary business involves advancing its district-scale gold projects located in Quebec's Abitibi Greenstone Belt, a premier mining jurisdiction in Canada. Maple Gold Mines is a pre-revenue company, generating funds for its exploration and operational activities through capital markets.
The company's core assets are the Douay and Joutel gold projects, which were consolidated into a single land package of approximately 400 square kilometers. In a significant strategic shift, Maple Gold recently restructured its 50/50 joint venture with Agnico Eagle Mines, which was formed in 2021, to assume 100% ownership of both projects. As part of this restructuring, Agnico Eagle increased its equity stake in Maple Gold to 19.9% and retains a 1% net smelter return royalty and certain back-in rights on the properties, ensuring a continued strategic relationship. This move provides Maple Gold with full operational control to advance the assets.
The Douay Gold Project is the company's flagship asset, hosting an established mineral resource of 511,000 ounces of gold in the Indicated category and 2.53 million ounces in the Inferred category. The project is situated along a 55-km stretch of the Casa Berardi Deformation Zone and has multiple zones of mineralization with potential for both open-pit and underground expansion. The adjacent Joutel Gold Project includes the past-producing Eagle-Telbel mine complex, which historically produced 1.1 million ounces of gold at an average grade of 6.5 g/t between 1974 and 1993. The company is leveraging historical data, including the digitization of over 250,000 meters of historical drill data, to create 3D geological models and identify new high-grade targets.
Under the leadership of President and CEO Kiran Patankar, a senior mining executive with a background in geological engineering, investment banking, and corporate leadership, the company is focused on a disciplined, data-driven exploration strategy. Mr. Patankar joined in 2021 and has since held roles as SVP, Growth Strategy and CFO before becoming CEO. His focus has been on improving operational efficiencies, such as reducing drilling costs, and advancing the projects toward demonstrating a multi-million ounce gold district. The management team and board include seasoned professionals with extensive experience in geology, mining finance, and corporate governance.
