The story of Magnum Systems is one of consolidation, bringing together two established players to create a single source for moving and packaging bulk materials. The journey begins in the 1960s with two separate companies. In Kansas, the Smoot Company started in 1960, developing and patenting pneumatic conveying systems to move dry goods. Around the same time, Murland “Mike” Taylor founded the Taylor Seed Company in Parsons, Kansas, and soon began designing and building bagging equipment for the agricultural industry. For decades, these two companies operated independently, one focused on moving materials through a plant, the other on packaging them at the end of the line. The major turning point came in 2001 when Smoot and Taylor Products merged to become Magnum Systems. This move created a company that could offer customers a more integrated solution, from unloading a railcar to the final packaged product. The company's evolution continued with a series of acquisitions by private equity firms, aimed at growth and expansion. In early 2023, 3 Rivers Capital acquired Magnum Systems, signaling a strategic push into the industrial automation sector. This was followed by Magnum's own acquisition of ECS Solutions in February 2025, adding expertise in process control automation and strengthening its ability to deliver complete, end-to-end systems. Today, Magnum Systems operates as an integrator and manufacturer, combining its legacy brands with new capabilities to automate and streamline how bulk materials are handled.
