M-Dot Network
In real-time, directly to the retailer’s customers.
M-Dot Network was established in 2006 by Bill Catania, an entrepreneur with a background in developing real-time technology networks. His experience as a founder of RaceFan, Inc., an E-commerce and motorsports marketing platform, and his studies in Applied Economics and Political Science at Cornell University, provided a foundation for his ventures into technology-driven business solutions.
The company operated as a digital incentive processor, creating a transaction engine that connected mobile and internet-based applications with retail point-of-sale (POS) systems. This technology enabled retailers to issue and redeem digital coupons in real-time using their existing in-store infrastructure. The platform functioned by aggregating digital offers from product manufacturers and various coupon issuers, which were then delivered to consumers through the retailer's website or a mobile site. Shoppers could redeem these coupons at checkout by swiping a loyalty card or providing a mobile number.
The business model centered on providing secure transaction processing that treated digital incentives like currency, aiming to streamline the promotional process for retailers, product manufacturers, and consumers. One of the company's notable achievements was winning the Amazon Web Services Start-Up Challenge, where it competed against over 1,500 companies. In 2011, M-Dot Network was acquired by Inmar, Inc., a retail transaction processing company. Following the acquisition, Catania joined Inmar as the Vice President of Digital Solutions, where he continued to lead the digital promotions business unit and expanded the network to over 20,000 retail locations.
