Lumo Robotics is a Brazilian company founded in 2022 by students from the Link School within the São José dos Campos Technological Innovation Park. The company specializes in developing robotic solutions to optimize the cleaning and maintenance of solar power plants.
The primary product is the Lumobot, a semi-autonomous robot designed for cleaning ground-mounted solar modules. It aims to reduce the time and cost of maintenance while ensuring precise and uniform cleaning. The Lumobot weighs 29kg, requires two people for operation, and can be controlled via remote or onboard buttons. It features nylon brushes to avoid damaging panel surfaces and can clean up to 800 panels per hour, a significant increase over manual methods. A key feature is its low water consumption of approximately 1.4 to 1.5 liters per panel, compared to 9 liters used in traditional cleaning, and it also offers a dry-cleaning capability.
In addition to the hardware, Lumo Robotics provides a software platform, Lumo OS, which allows clients to manage their fleet of robots and generate reports on performance, efficiency, and productivity. The company's business model includes direct services, rental, and sales of its robots, with a focus on the latter two. Its target clients include service providers who perform cleaning and maintenance on photovoltaic structures and large-scale solar asset owners. The company's solutions are developed entirely in-house, from hardware to the embedded software that generates insights from the robots' sensors.
In January 2025, Lumo Robotics secured its first funding round of R$1 million (approximately $163K USD) from angel investors, Link Ventures, and Gera Climate Ventures. This capital is intended to accelerate product development, expand its market presence within Brazil, and address a waiting list of clients that reportedly represents about 25% of the market, including major players in the energy sector.
