Lumenary operates as an applied AI lab focused on transforming software development. The company was founded in 2024 by four friends who met at Dartmouth College: Vivek Hazari (CEO), Daniel DiPietro (COO), Ziray Hao (CPO), and John McCambridge (CTO). The founding team brings a wealth of experience from prominent tech and finance companies, including Palantir, Jane Street, IMC Trading, and Flatiron Health. Their collective background spans building enterprise-grade AI products, developing capital allocation systems managing billions, and creating data engines for petabyte-scale processing.
Lumenary's core product is Solar, a platform designed to enable small teams to build and deploy production-ready applications with the assistance of AI agents. Solar utilizes a multiplayer canvas interface, reminiscent of design tools like Figma, but for generating actual software with live data and backend functionality. The platform aims to streamline development by allowing users to visualize and manage the relationships between database tables, backend Python logic, and frontend pages. It provides infrastructure components such as authentication, databases, storage, and servers, but also allows integration with a client's existing infrastructure. Solar was initially developed as an internal tool to accelerate the creation of enterprise demos before being productized as the company's main focus. The business model appears to be centered around providing this development platform to accelerate software creation from the MVP stage to a maintainable and deployable product.
Prior to founding Lumenary, the founders had distinguished careers. Vivek Hazari spent two years at Palantir Technologies, where he was involved in the commercial business and helped lead a team for AIP development. Daniel DiPietro worked at Jane Street, building capital allocation optimizations and options trading tools. He has also co-authored publications in notable venues like NeurIPS. Ziray Hao's background includes designing AI products for Palantir Technologies. John McCambridge has experience as a high-frequency trading engineer. The company is a participant in the Y Combinator Summer 2024 batch and is headquartered in San Francisco.
