Loom operates as a digital health education platform with a focus on sexual and reproductive wellness, aiming to provide women and non-binary individuals with the knowledge to better understand their bodies. The company was founded by Erica Chidi and Quinn Lundberg in 2017, starting as a physical location in Los Angeles offering classes and community support. Recognizing the need for wider accessibility, Loom transitioned to a fully digital model in 2020, launching an app that provides its educational resources to a global audience.
Erica Chidi, co-founder and former CEO, is a health educator and doula with over a decade of experience. Her background in providing guidance to individuals on their health journeys directly informed Loom's mission to create an educational experience free from judgment. Chidi's drive to establish Loom stemmed from her observation of a significant lack of accessible, modern education in sexual and reproductive health. This journey led her to become one of the few Black female founders to raise over $1 million in venture capital.
The business offers content and courses covering topics from periods and sex to pregnancy and menopause. Its services were delivered through a mobile app with a subscription-based model, which included online courses and community support features. The platform combines science-backed, evidence-based health information with personal stories to help users navigate their health. In October 2024, Loom was acquired by Perelel, a women's health company that provides vitamin and supplement packs. Following the acquisition, for which the terms were not disclosed, Erica Chidi joined Perelel as a strategic advisor to continue the shared mission of supporting women's health.
