Livingstyle Inc. is a Japanese technology firm specializing in 3D and augmented reality (AR) solutions for the interior design and furniture industries. Founded in October 2007 by Toshihiro Inoue, the company originated from his personal experience of building a custom-designed apartment and recognizing the inefficiencies of traditional 2D-based design processes. Inoue, who holds an MBA, identified an opportunity to use internet and 3D technology to streamline interior planning.
The company's core offerings include a 3D interior simulator that allows users to create floor plans, arrange furniture, and visualize the space through a walk-through feature. This service, accessible on both PC and iPad, is designed for intuitive use without requiring specialized CAD knowledge. Its primary clients are interior shops, furniture manufacturers, and online stores, with its tools adopted by over 20 major brands in Japan. Livingstyle also developed "RoomCo AR," a smartphone application that enables users to virtually "try on" furniture in their own space in full scale using augmented reality.
The business model is based on providing its simulation and AR platforms as an ASP service to businesses. In May 2020, Livingstyle transferred its entire business, including the 3D simulator, RoomCo AR, and the interior media site RoomCo, to Open Resource Corporation, a subsidiary of gooddays holdings, Inc. The business now operates as the Livingstyle Business Unit within Open Resource Corporation.
