Sometimes a business is born not from a grand vision, but from simple curiosity. In the early 1970s, a young Minnesotan named Virgil "Virg" Lindstrom, fresh out of the Army, took a job as a component buyer. In this role, he became fascinated by something most Americans at the time didn't think much about: the metric system. This interest led him to explore metric fasteners, and in 1983, he founded Lindstrom Metric, Inc. The company found its niche by focusing intently on one thing: metric fasteners. In the 1990s, Lindstrom made a pivotal decision to sell exclusively to distributors, not directly to manufacturers. This strategy allowed the company to build deep, lasting relationships and establish itself as a master distributor in the fastener industry. A significant chapter began in July 2011 when the private equity firm Harbour Group acquired the company. This kicked off a period of strategic growth. Under Harbour Group's ownership, Lindstrom expanded its footprint and product lines through a series of its own acquisitions, including Bossard Metrics in 2012 and Titan Fasteners. These moves solidified its position as a leading supplier, eventually rebranding to simply 'Lindstrom' to reflect its broader offerings beyond just metrics.
