The story of Les Productions Horticoles Demers begins in 1960, when founders Yolande and André Demers transitioned from traditional farming to specialize in strawberries, establishing the Fraisière André Demers. A decade later, they pioneered greenhouse production, a move that set the stage for future growth. By 1985, their greenhouse tomatoes were available in grocery stores, marking a significant step in their expansion. In 1990, the founders' sons, Jacques and Réjean Demers, took over the family business. They drove the company forward, constructing modern greenhouses and expanding their strawberry cultivation. Over the years, the company diversified its crops to include various types of tomatoes, peppers, and became the first in Canada to grow greenhouse raspberries. A pivotal moment came with major investments to significantly increase their greenhouse capacity, such as a $25 million project in 2016 and a $70 million investment in 2021. These expansions not only solidified their position as a major producer in Quebec but also focused on eco-friendly technology, using biogas to reduce their carbon footprint. Today, led by President Jacques Demers, the company continues to innovate and expand its year-round offerings of locally grown produce.
