Leafinti Bioenergy Private Limited is an Indian bioenergy company specializing in the production of compressed biogas (CBG) and fermented organic manure from agricultural and other organic waste. Incorporated on December 7, 2020, the company operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, one of India's largest ethanol producers. The company's establishment and operations are aligned with the Indian government's Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) initiative, which promotes CBG as a cleaner, sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.
Leafinti's first major project was a CBG plant in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, with construction commencing in late 2020. This plant processes 200 tonnes of press mud daily to produce approximately 10.2 tonnes of CBG and biofertilizer. The firm's business model centers on converting various organic wastes, such as agricultural residue and sugarcane press mud, into valuable energy and agricultural products. The primary revenue stream is the sale of CBG to city gas distributors like AGP City Gas Private Limited (AG&P) and GAIL (India) Limited. Between January and May 2024, Leafinti supplied over 1,000 tons of CBG to AG&P.
The company is in a significant growth phase, highlighted by a joint venture with GAIL, India's leading natural gas company. In this partnership, GAIL holds a 49% stake while TruAlt Bioenergy retains 51%. The joint venture plans to invest over $72 million to establish 10 new CBG plants, each with a production capacity of 10 tonnes per day. This expansion is expected to process over 600 million kilograms of organic waste annually, yielding 33 million kilograms of CBG and millions of kilograms of solid and liquid fermented organic manure. The founder and Managing Director of the parent company, TruAlt Bioenergy, is Vijaykumar Murugesh Nirani. The directors of Leafinti include Subhransu Sekhar Biswal, Vijaykumar Murugesh Nirani, and others.
