In 1994, the journey of Leader Energy began, not with a sudden spark, but with a foundational project: building a diesel power plant in Cambodia. From this practical start, the company embarked on a nearly three-decade path in the power industry. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of HNG Capital Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian family-owned investment holding company. The business operates as an independent power producer, focusing on the development, ownership, and operation of power assets across Southeast Asia and Taiwan. The company’s story is one of steady, deliberate expansion rather than explosive growth. A significant shift in strategy occurred in 2016 when Leader Energy ventured into renewable energy, a move that would define its future. This wasn't just a pivot; it was an acceleration. By 2021, the company made a key acquisition, purchasing 100% of LYS Energy, a leading solar producer based in Singapore. This deal, overseen by Group CEO Gan Boon Hean, significantly bolstered its renewable portfolio and expanded its footprint in rooftop solar. This strategic focus on green energy attracted major investment. In October 2024, Leader Energy secured over $100 million from the China-Asean Investment Cooperation Fund II. This capital infusion was earmarked to accelerate the expansion of its renewable power generation and transmission portfolio, solidifying its position as a major regional player in clean energy. Today, Leader Energy's portfolio includes solar, hydro, and wind projects, reflecting a deep commitment to the global energy transition.
