Labouradda, operating under its parent company Otaf Overseas Private Limited, was founded in 2017 by Indu Bhushan Asthana, Siddharth Asthana, and Vibhuti Mohan. The company established a digital platform to connect consumers with daily wage labourers in India, addressing the significant challenge of unemployment within the country's vast unorganized workforce. The business operates as an online portal for blue-collar jobs, initially focusing on the state of Uttar Pradesh with plans for broader national and international expansion. Labouradda's model was developed to bridge the technology gap, acknowledging that most labourers did not own smartphones. It utilized a call center and a mobile app to facilitate connections, enabling consumers (smartphone users) to find nearby non-smartphone-using labourers. For a monthly subscription fee of approximately $2.00, registered labourers, who were required to be Aadhaar cardholders, would receive employment leads forwarded by the platform. Consumers could submit their requirements through the app or call center, and the service was free of cost for them, with direct cash payment made to the labourer.
The platform received early support, including seed funding and mentorship, through an incubation period with iCreate, an independent center that fosters entrepreneurship in India. Labouradda aimed to increase the employability and income for daily wage earners by resolving issues of communication gaps and unreliability for consumers. By October 2018, the company had registered over 10,000 labourers and had expanded its operations to 10 cities. While the parent company, Otaf Overseas Private Limited, remains active with reported revenue of ₹42.1L for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019, Labouradda itself is now considered a dead-pooled company.
