Originally established as Konsus in August 2015 by co-founders Fredrik Thomassen and Sondre Rasch, the company now known as Superside embarked on a mission to redefine the creative services landscape. Thomassen’s background as a journalist, a marketing consultant at McKinsey, and co-founder of e-commerce startup Zalora Group informed the company's direction, born from his own frustrations with sourcing reliable freelance talent. The Norwegian startup quickly gained traction, becoming the first from its country to be accepted into the prestigious Y Combinator accelerator's Winter 2016 batch. This milestone was followed by a $1.5 million seed funding round in August 2016, led by notable investors including Sam Altman and the Slack Fund.
In September 2019, Konsus rebranded to Superside, a strategic pivot to better reflect its evolution from a generalist, pay-as-you-go service to a specialized, subscription-based model targeting enterprise and high-growth companies. This shift addressed a gap in the market that traditional agencies and freelance platforms could not adequately fill, offering a more integrated, long-term partnership. The company operates on a Creative-as-a-Service (CaaS) model, providing a comprehensive suite of design and creative services through monthly subscription plans. This structure gives clients access to a dedicated team for a set number of hours, covering project management, design execution, and quality control, ensuring predictable costs and streamlined workflows.
Superside functions as a fully remote, tech-enabled creative company, leveraging a global talent pool of designers, illustrators, and project managers spread across more than 70 countries. This distributed model allows for 24/7 operations, enabling rapid turnarounds on projects ranging from branding, web and social media design to motion graphics and video production. The firm serves as an extension of its clients' in-house marketing and creative teams, managing the entire creative process from briefing to final delivery. Its client roster includes major global brands such as Google, Meta, Amazon, and Salesforce. The business has continued to attract significant investment, including a $30 million Series A round in 2021, to further develop its technology platform and expand its global team.
