Konduto offers a fraud detection service for the e-commerce and digital payments sector, using machine learning and browsing behavior analysis to identify and prevent fraudulent transactions. Founded in 2014 by Tom Canabarro, Milton Tavares Neto, and Daniel Bento, the company was established to address the challenges merchants face with online fraud, an insight Canabarro gained from his experience in payment gateways. The founders combined their expertise to create a novel approach, with Bento developing the product concept, Tavares Neto focusing on data science and machine learning, and Canabarro contributing his knowledge of technology and infrastructure.
The platform analyzes a customer's browsing behavior from their first visit, tracking data points such as visit origin, time on site, and product pages viewed. When an order is submitted, this navigation data is combined with transaction details, IP geolocation, and device fingerprinting. An artificial intelligence engine then assesses the risk and provides a real-time recommendation to the merchant. This system is designed to reduce chargeback rates, lower the number of orders requiring manual review, and decrease the rate of legitimate orders being incorrectly declined. Konduto provides its services through several tailored plans, including 'Konduto Complete' for e-commerce stores needing comprehensive risk analysis with a manual review component, and 'Konduto Performance' for large-scale operations requiring automated, real-time approvals. The company primarily serves merchants in Latin America.
In March 2021, it was announced that Boa Vista, a Brazilian data intelligence company, would acquire Konduto for R$172 million. The acquisition was finalized in August 2021 following approval from Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE). This was Boa Vista's second acquisition since its IPO in September 2020 and was aimed at strengthening its portfolio of analytical solutions by incorporating Konduto's machine learning and behavioral monitoring technologies.
