Klonbiyotek Biyoteknoloji A.Ş. is a Turkish biotechnology firm focused on the research, development, and production of diagnostic kits for animal health. The company was established in January 2018 after securing funding from the 2017 TÜBİTAK 1512 Techno-enterprise Capital Support Program. Its founding mission is to address Turkey's reliance on imported veterinary diagnostic tools by creating domestically produced alternatives. The company was founded by Dr. İbrahim Sözdutmaz, a faculty member at Erciyes University's Department of Virology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. His academic and research background in virology is foundational to the company's product development and scientific approach.
The firm operates in the veterinary diagnostics market, serving veterinarians and livestock owners by providing rapid, point-of-care testing solutions. Its business model involves the in-house development of essential R&D components like antigens and antibodies, followed by the manufacturing and sale of complete test kits. Revenue is generated through sales to veterinary pharmaceutical wholesalers and distributors across different regions of Turkey. A significant milestone was achieved when Klonbiyotek received an investment from the ERBAN and MAIN Angel Investment networks at a valuation of 3 million TL. This capital injection facilitated the setup of a manufacturing facility with an annual production capacity of 500,000 test kits.
Klonbiyotek's initial flagship product is a rapid diagnostic kit for neonatal calf diarrhea, a major cause of economic loss in the Turkish livestock industry. This lateral flow immunochromatographic test, İs-kit 4™, can simultaneously detect four of the most common pathogens—Rotavirus, Coronavirus, E.coli, and Cryptosporidium—from a single fecal sample in approximately five minutes. This allows for immediate diagnosis at the animal's side without the need for laboratory analysis, enabling prompt and accurate treatment. Beyond livestock, the company has expanded its portfolio using a KOSGEB R&D Innovation grant to develop and produce rapid diagnostic kits for viral diseases in companion animals, specifically dogs. The product line includes tests for cattle, sheep, goats, cats, and dogs.
