The company was established in Vienna, Austria, in 2015 by Tina Deutsch and Nikolaus Schmidt, two former management consultants. Their venture was inspired by Clayton Christensen's article, "Consulting on the Cusp of Disruption," which motivated them to reshape the consulting industry.

The firm primarily serves medium-sized and large companies across the DACH region, operating in a B2B model. It addresses a wide range of business needs, including strategy, operations, digital transformation, marketing, HR, and sustainability. KLAITON's core service is its intelligent matching process, which aims to connect clients with the ideal expert for their specific project within 48 hours. The platform boasts a community of over 1,200 consultants who are selected through a four-step qualification process to ensure expertise and quality. The business generates revenue by facilitating these placements, offering an alternative to traditional consulting houses.

A significant milestone in the company's history occurred in 2018 when the German Haufe Group acquired a majority stake, rebranding the platform as Haufe Advisory. However, in early 2022, Deutsch and Schmidt executed a management buy-back, reacquiring all shares and returning to the original KLAITON brand. This move was driven by a desire for strategic independence and to pursue a more agile growth path. Shortly after, in February 2022, KLAITON sold its coaching division to the Berlin-based platform Coachhub, allowing KLAITON to focus exclusively on its management consulting and advisory services. Co-founder Tina Deutsch has recently taken on a dedicated role to expand the company's sustainability consulting practice.
