In 1984, Miles Kimbel founded a small plumbing company, laying the groundwork for a multi-generational business. The story took a significant turn in 2001 when his son, Rob Kimbel, then an architecture student, bought the three-person operation from his father. Recognizing the potential for growth, Rob applied a systematic approach, creating processes that drove efficiency and profits. The company's revenue grew from $2.5 million in 2002 to $15 million by 2005. As Kimbel Mechanical Systems built a reputation for quality plumbing, builders began asking for more. This demand led to the addition of HVAC services in 2006. When the 2007 housing crisis hit, instead of shrinking, Rob chose to expand geographically, developing new markets for the company. This strategy paid off, and the company later added electrical services in 2013, becoming a tri-service provider for single-family and multi-family residential projects. A pivotal moment arrived in July 2024, when the New York-based private investment firm Good Springs Capital made a significant investment in the company. While the financial terms were not disclosed, the Kimbel family retained a major ownership stake, with Rob Kimbel continuing as CEO. This partnership was designed to fuel the next stage of growth. This new chapter began quickly, with Kimbel acquiring Texas-based Gibson Plumbing in May 2025, expanding its footprint into four of Texas's fastest-growing regions.
