The story of Kellerstrass Oil begins in 1948 in Ogden, Utah. Three brothers, Ken, Mack, and Dean Kellerstrass, founded the company, starting with a single gas station and office. For decades, they steadily built a reputation as a reliable independent petroleum marketer. In 1984, Ken's son, Craig Kellerstrass, took the helm after his father's passing, purchasing his uncles' interests in the business. A key strategic shift occurred in 1992 when Craig began focusing the company on the wholesale side of the petroleum business, moving away from directly operating retail convenience stores. This decision proved pivotal, allowing Kellerstrass Oil to concentrate on supplying fuel, lubricants, and other products to a growing network of dealers and commercial clients across the Intermountain West. The company expanded its reach from Utah into Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Colorado, and Montana. After 72 years of family ownership and significant growth, the company reached a major inflection point. In January 2020, Kellerstrass Oil announced it would be acquired by Parkland USA, a subsidiary of the Canadian firm Parkland Fuel Corp. The deal, which closed in the first quarter of 2020, integrated Kellerstrass into Parkland's Rockies Regional Operating Center, strengthening Parkland's U.S. footprint and providing an exit for the long-standing family business.
