Founded in 1967, Kukdong Corporation is a South Korean-based company specializing in Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) of knit apparel. The company has established itself as a key supplier for globally recognized brands such as Nike, Carhartt, H&M, and Forever 21. Kukdong operates on a business-to-business model, deriving its revenue from manufacturing clothing based on the specifications of its clients. Its operations are international, with production facilities in Indonesia and Mexico to maintain a competitive edge in both export and domestic markets.
The company was founded by the late Byun Hyo-soo and has a history of family management, with son Byun Sang-ki and grandson Byun Young-sup having been involved in the company's leadership. Kukdong was listed on the Korea Stock Exchange (KOSPI) in 1996. A significant strategic shift occurred in 2006 when the company ventured into the biotechnology sector by acquiring Bio Value, aiming to establish a new engine for future growth. However, in August 2022, the bio-business division, led by then-CEO Oh Chang-gyu, was separated from Kukdong. Subsequently, golfwear company Chris F&C acquired Kukdong, signaling a strategic realignment to focus on its core apparel manufacturing business and enhance profitability by reorganizing overseas operations.
