Kaxing Tianxia, legally known as Shanghai Kaxing Tianxia Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., operates a network platform for logistics transactions catering to small and medium-sized logistics enterprises. Founded in May 2010 by Zhai Guoliang, the company developed a model that integrates online and offline resources to create a comprehensive logistics ecosystem. Zhai Guoliang started his entrepreneurial journey in 1995 with Jiaji Express, a significant player in the less-than-truckload transport sector, before establishing Kaxing Tianxia.
The company’s business model revolves around an online information system that connects various parties with logistics needs, facilitating transactions, settlements, and evaluations within the platform. Offline, Kaxing Tianxia establishes physical logistics hubs in cities and utilizes a broad network of social运力 (transport capacity) to build a national transportation network. This hybrid approach supports the online transactions and transforms the traditional station-to-station model into a more direct, door-to-door service. The platform also incorporates a mobile app, financial support, insurance services, and truck-related services to support the growth of its member enterprises.
Kaxing Tianxia has received significant strategic investments over the years. In May 2014, Cainiao Network, the logistics arm of Alibaba Group, became a major shareholder. The company has continued to attract funding, including a strategic investment from Cainiao and GLP in January 2019, aimed at accelerating the development of a smart logistics backbone network. This model, sometimes referred to in the market as "Little Cainiao," emphasizes creating a platform ecosystem rather than direct asset ownership, similar to the business philosophies of platforms like Taobao. The platform leverages big data to optimize transport routes, aiming to significantly improve efficiency and reduce transit times compared to traditional logistics operations.
