Kast Concrete Basins
Design and manufacture of contemporary concrete basins.
Kast Concrete Basins specializes in the design and manufacturing of contemporary concrete washbasins for residential and commercial markets. The company was founded in 2011 by Tim Bayes, who serves as the Managing Director and Head of Creative. Bayes, who has a degree in Fine Art and an affinity for engineering, was inspired by Switzerland's use of concrete and its potential for product design over 25 years ago. Before focusing on basins, he founded LowInfo, a concrete design company that produced bespoke items like bars and worktops for 15 years.
Based in Nottinghamshire, UK, on the edge of Sherwood Forest, the company designs and produces all its products in its own factory, which also houses its design studio. This integration allows for rapid testing, refinement, and production. The business model is built on a made-to-order system, offering clients a choice of over 50 basin designs and 28 colors. The product line includes various models such as wall-hung, freestanding, countertop, cloakroom, and double basins. The basins are made from aggregate-based concrete, using limestone from local suppliers and high-quality pigments.
Kast serves homeowners, designers, and architects globally, with distribution channels in Europe, China, the Americas, and Australasia. In May 2023, the company was acquired by the American bathroom giant Kohler and now operates as part of Kohler's Luxury Brands portfolio, which is intended to accelerate its global expansion.
