In Zambia, one of the oldest and largest manufacturers of clay products began its journey as ZamClay before becoming a private company, Kalulushi Clay Bricks (KCB), in 1973. For decades, it operated as a key supplier to the Zambian construction market, mining high-quality clay from its own extensive quarry and powering its kilns with waste biomass. The company established itself as a foundational player in the nation's building materials sector. A significant shift occurred in 2015 when the investment firm Inside Capital made its first investment in KCB. This marked the beginning of a new chapter. By 2017, Inside Capital had taken full control, aiming to transform the traditional manufacturer into a more structured business positioned for significant growth. The playbook was focused on professionalizing management and scaling operations. The company's trajectory took another major turn in 2020 through a strategic merger. Inside Capital brokered a deal to combine KCB with Beta Holdings, the largest clay brick and concrete roof tile manufacturer in neighboring Zimbabwe. This merger created a regional building materials powerhouse. To reflect this new identity, Kalulushi Clay Bricks was renamed United BETA Zambia on August 20th, 2021, signaling its integration into the larger BETA International family of companies and its expansion into markets like the DRC.
