Kakcho
Social networking platform for youth expression.
Kakcho is a developer of social platforms aimed at democratizing expression for young people across various media formats, languages, and geographies. The company was founded in Delhi, India, in 2016 by Aakash Kakkar and Ridhima Chopra, who were 20-year-old students at the Footwear Design and Development Institute at the time. The name 'Kakcho' is a portmanteau of the founders' surnames.
Initially, Kakcho launched as a fashion-styling app called "Your Fashion Friend," which connected users with stylists for personalized advice based on body type, complexion, and existing wardrobe. The beta version was rolled out in March 2016, and the official app launched in February 2017. Early revenue models included monthly subscription fees from brands and affiliate revenue from major online retailers.
Over time, the company shifted its focus to building a portfolio of social networking products. These include Fiva, a photo and video sharing platform in local Indian languages; Charcha, a user-generated content audio platform; and Sawal Jawab, a question-and-answer platform. The company's stated mission is to inspire connections and create opportunities, with a goal of enabling over one trillion connections globally. Kakcho has raised a total of $921K in funding over multiple rounds, with its latest funding being a Seed round in May 2022. The founders retain the largest shareholding in the company.
