Kaex, produced by the Swiss company ph. AG, develops and markets a patented dietary supplement designed to accelerate the body's regeneration process. The company was founded in 2016 by Pedro Pablo Schmidt, who developed the initial formula while studying pharmaceutical sciences at ETH Zurich. Originally conceived as a hangover remedy after a party, Schmidt identified a market gap for a product that addressed the causes of physical malaise rather than just the symptoms. After five years of research, he established ph. AG and filed for a worldwide patent.
The product, initially branded as a hangover cure, gained rapid traction in Switzerland and was soon discovered by athletes for its post-exertion recovery benefits. This led to a strategic pivot, positioning Kaex as a sports recovery and performance booster. The formula is designed to counteract cortisol stress, which can impair recovery, disrupt sleep, and hinder performance after intense physical activity. The core product, 'KAEX reload', is a powder containing 25 natural biomolecules, including amino acids, electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals that work to replenish depleted nutrients. The product line has since expanded to include 'KA-EX Go', a bottled electrolyte drink, and 'KAEX Cortisol Stress Reducer'.
Kaex generates revenue through a direct-to-consumer model via its website and partnerships with retailers, including major chains like Coop and Migros in Switzerland, as well as pharmacies and fitness studios. The business model also incorporates B2B sales to professional sports teams. The company serves over 1,000 professional athletes and more than 30 teams, including Paris Saint-Germain, FC Basel, and the Swiss National Football Team. Having established a strong presence in Europe, Kaex is expanding into the U.S. market, with products available in premium fitness chains and retailers.
