Kaddy operates as a B2B technology platform in Australia, providing an end-to-end supply chain solution for the beverage industry. The company was founded in 2019 by high school friends Rich Coombes and Mike Abbott. The founders identified a market need to modernize the traditionally inefficient ordering and payment processes within the wholesale beverage sector. Coombes brought extensive experience from the beverage industry, having previously co-founded Batlow Cider, Capital Brewing, and Will & Co Coffee. Abbott contributed his technology and operations background, having co-founded Uber in Australia and managed its operations for Australia and New Zealand.
The platform serves as a centralized marketplace connecting beverage suppliers—including breweries, wineries, and distilleries—with wholesale buyers like pubs, bars, restaurants, and bottle shops. For venues and retailers, Kaddy streamlines the discovery and ordering process, allowing them to access a wide range of products from numerous suppliers with a single account and consolidated invoicing, eliminating the need for multiple credit applications. For suppliers, the platform offers a new sales channel, streamlines order processing, and guarantees payment within a few days, thereby removing the burden of chasing invoices.
In October 2021, Kaddy was acquired by WineDepot's parent company, DW8, for approximately $34 million, which later rebranded the entire entity as Kaddy Group. Following this, the company was publicly listed on the ASX. However, the Kaddy Group entered voluntary administration in May 2023, citing the unprofitability of its fulfilment and logistics division. Subsequently, the Kaddy Marketplace was acquired by the Singapore-based investment firm Lecca Group in May 2023. Under this new ownership, the business was relaunched as 'Kaddy Reborn', with a revamped model focused on an expanded product range, more competitive pricing, and improved platform features. The new structure also allows bottle shops and other retailers to act as suppliers to on-premise customers.
