Juno Kids is a public benefit corporation that provides the first child disability insurance in the United States, offered as an employee benefit. The company's mission is to offer a financial safety net for working parents if their child, from birth to age 26, becomes severely ill, injured, or disabled.
The company was co-founded by CEO Jordan Epstein, an experienced entrepreneur, and Dr. Snaebjorn (Snae) Gunnsteinsson. Dr. Gunnsteinsson, who holds a Ph.D. in economics from Yale, was inspired to create the company after his brother in Iceland received government financial support when his child was born prematurely, a safety net he realized was unavailable in the U.S. Teaming up in 2019, Epstein and Dr. Gunnsteinsson developed Juno to address this gap for American families.
Juno's business model is centered on partnering with employers to offer its insurance product as a core benefit, which can be employer-funded or offered on a voluntary basis through payroll deductions. This B2B approach helps companies attract and retain talent by supporting employees, particularly mothers, whose careers are often most at risk when a child requires significant care. The insurance provides a long-term cash benefit of up to $500,000 per qualifying child, paid in monthly installments for up to 10 years. Families can use these tax-advantaged funds for any purpose, such as replacing lost wages, hiring caregivers, or paying for medical expenses not covered by health insurance. In addition to the financial component, Juno provides personalized one-on-one support services to help families navigate their child's condition and access resources. As a public benefit corporation, Juno commits to donating 2% of every premium to organizations that research childhood disabilities and support families.
