The story of JP Systems begins in 1983 when founder Jackie Mulrooney started the company to deliver software services. Initially, the firm developed custom accounting and billing applications for small businesses and also served the financial and defense markets. A significant pivot occurred in 1998 when Galen Mulrooney joined, shifting the company's focus to a specialized and complex field: federal healthcare IT. This move set JP Systems on a new trajectory, concentrating on data architecture, data quality, and clinical terminology services for government clients. The company operates as a prime contractor for the U.S. federal government, specializing in making clinical data interoperable and standardized. This involves work with HL7 data standards and improving clinical data quality to ensure patient safety. A key moment in its growth came in 2015 with a major Terminology Support Services contract from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), which significantly accelerated the company's expansion. That contract was a precursor to over $101 million in federal health IT contracts, solidifying the firm's position in its niche. As a certified Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB), JP Systems continues to operate as a privately held company led by Jackie and Galen Mulrooney.
