Jobspire emerged in the Indian recruitment landscape in 2014, founded by Manipal Institute of Technology alumni Varun Mayya, Kartik Luke Singh, Sandesh Kini, and Mohak Dhingra. The venture was born from the founders' own experiences while still in college; Mayya and Singh had previously run a services company generating significant revenue but sought a greater challenge. They identified a gap in the hiring market, particularly for startups struggling to convey their unique culture to potential talent.

The company's initial offering was a visual job platform that allowed businesses to showcase their work environment through pictures and team stories, enabling candidates to "window shop for jobs". This evolved into a comprehensive recruitment solution providing sourcing, matching, decision-making, and tracking services. A key feature was the introduction of short, skill-based challenges for applicants, giving employers a snapshot of a candidate's problem-solving abilities, a departure from traditional CV-based screening. By May 2017, Jobspire had worked with over 1,000 companies and had approximately 200,000 registered professionals on its platform.

Jobspire operated on a curated marketplace model. It sourced candidates through professional and social networks, verified them with proprietary challenges, and then presented a curated pool to companies. The initial business model was primarily pay-per-hire, charging a percentage of a successful hire's annual salary, though they also experimented with a subscription-based model. In September 2015, the company secured $262,000 in a seed funding round led by Purvi Capital, with participation from several other institutional and angel investors. This capital was aimed at scaling the team and further developing its technology.

In June 2017, Jobspire was acquired by JustCode, a New York-based interviewing platform, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition was intended to expand JustCode's operations into India and integrate Jobspire's products to create a more comprehensive end-to-end recruitment platform, with a new focus on testing developer talent.
