In 1994, a company was founded in Birmingham, UK, with a specific goal: to solve the complex accounting and job costing challenges for small to medium-sized construction businesses. This company, JNC Construction Software, was started by James Carney. It developed a suite of products designed to integrate with the widely-used Sage 50 accounting software, a move that embedded it deeply within its target market's existing workflows. The company’s core products, Construction Manager and the cloud-based Maintenance Manager, addressed the day-to-day financial and project management needs of contractors. For over two decades, JNC grew steadily, building a loyal customer base of hundreds of businesses across the UK by focusing on this niche. The playbook took a significant turn in May 2018. JNC Construction Software was acquired by Eque2, a larger, private equity-backed software specialist also focused on the construction industry. The acquisition was part of Eque2's strategic 'buy-and-build' growth plan, backed by a £16 million investment from LDC. For Eque2, the deal cemented its position as the leading provider of Sage-integrated construction software in the UK and Ireland, expanding its customer base to over 1,600 companies. Following the acquisition, JNC's solutions were integrated into Eque2's portfolio, giving its customers access to greater resources and further product development.
