Iron Mountain Interactive was a Vienna-based independent game development studio established in 2017. The company was founded by a team of industry veterans: Michael Borras, Peter Ehardt, Philipp Seifried, and Helmut Hutterer. The founders brought with them a wealth of experience from renowned companies like Rockstar Games, Deep Silver, and their previous venture, Socialspiel Entertainment. Borras and Hutterer, for instance, had previously co-founded Socialspiel, which ceased operations in 2017 after a shift in strategy from their partner, Nexon Korea. This setback, however, paved the way for Iron Mountain Interactive, as the founders' reputation attracted interest from investors and publishers worldwide.
The studio's primary focus was on developing high-quality online multiplayer games for PC and consoles, deliberately moving away from the competitive free-to-play mobile market. Their business model centered on creating paid games for platforms like Steam and PlayStation. A significant milestone for the company was securing a $3 million Series A investment in July 2018 from the Chinese publisher Oasis Games. This partnership granted Oasis Games exclusive worldwide publishing rights to Iron Mountain's upcoming titles and a minority stake in the company. The funding was allocated to expand the team and finance the production of two games slated for a 2019 release.
The flagship project under development was a competitive online multiplayer game described as a "Hero Sport," which aimed to combine elements of traditional sports with MOBA and RPG mechanics. This title, later revealed as "Steel Circus," was intended for a global audience, with a development strategy that targeted both Western and Asian markets. Despite the initial funding and ambitious plans, Iron Mountain Interactive eventually ceased operations, with its status listed as deadpooled as of March 2020.
