In 1997, a unique idea took shape: to create a national provider of electrical contracting services by consolidating a group of established, community-based companies. This led to the incorporation of Integrated Electrical Services (IES) in June 1997, which began by acquiring 15 electrical contracting and maintenance firms. The combined strength of these founding companies, with an average of 18 years in business, gave the new entity a significant head start. Just seven months later, in January 1998, IES launched its Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange. The company grew rapidly, and by 2002, it was recognized as the largest electrical contractor in the United States. However, the journey wasn't without its challenges. In February 2006, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, a significant event that tested its resilience. Proving its mettle, IES emerged from bankruptcy just three months later. This period marked a pivotal turnaround, leading to a strategic rebranding in 2016 to IES Holdings, Inc., reflecting its evolution into a diversified holding company. Today, IES Holdings operates through four main segments: Communications, Residential, Commercial & Industrial, and Infrastructure Solutions, serving a wide array of markets from data centers to single-family homes. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, the company that started from the roots of local contractors has grown into a major national player with over 8,000 employees across more than 125 locations.
