In the world of technology, the lifecycle of hardware is a pressing concern. Intechra Holdings entered this space not as a manufacturer, but as a consolidator in the IT asset disposition (ITAD) industry. The company's business was to help large businesses retire and dispose of their technology hardware, from computers to servers, in a secure and environmentally compliant way. Under the leadership of CEO Chip Slack, Intechra pursued an aggressive growth strategy through acquisitions. In early 2007, the company announced the acquisition of three other firms, which significantly expanded its national footprint and created a vertically integrated operation. This gave them the capacity to handle everything from refurbishment and remarketing of used equipment to the outright recycling of millions of pounds of electronic assets monthly. Supported by a roster of institutional investors including Chrysalis Ventures and SJF Ventures, Intechra scaled its operations across the United States. The core value proposition was clear: provide a one-stop-shop for corporations to manage the end-of-life for their IT assets, reducing shipping costs and ensuring data security and environmental rules were followed. The endgame for Intechra arrived in late 2010 when it was acquired by electronics distribution giant Arrow Electronics. At the time of the sale, Intechra had approximately 300 employees and annual sales of around $75 million. The deal represented a strategic move for Arrow to extend its services across the entire product lifecycle, from distribution to disposition, folding Intechra's specialized services into its global operation.
