Instamart

Instamart is an on-demand quick commerce platform and a subsidiary of the Indian online food ordering and delivery company, Swiggy. Launched in August 2020, Instamart specializes in delivering groceries, fresh produce, and household essentials to customers, often within 15 to 30 minutes. The service was created in response to the growing consumer demand for rapid and convenient access to daily necessities, a trend that accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instamart operates on a dark store model, utilizing a network of small, strategically located warehouses that are not open to the public but serve as fulfillment centers for online orders. This model, combined with Swiggy's extensive logistics network and AI-driven technology for route optimization, enables quick order processing and delivery. The platform offers a wide range of products, including fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy, snacks, personal care items, and other household goods. Instamart's business model is part of Swiggy's broader strategy to expand beyond food delivery and become a comprehensive on-demand convenience provider. Revenue is generated through commissions on orders, delivery fees, and potential subscription models.

Swiggy, the parent company, was founded in August 2014 by Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy, and Rahul Jaimini. Before Swiggy, Majety and Reddy had founded a logistics and shipping courier service called Bundl, which they later rebranded to enter the food delivery market. Phani Kishan Addepalli, who was elevated to co-founder status in 2021, took over as the head of Instamart in 2023. The initial head of Instamart, Karthik Gurumurthy, led the vertical from its inception in 2020.
