Established in February 2012, Infogram emerged from Riga, Latvia, as a specialized data visualization platform. The company was founded by Uldis Leiterts, Raimonds Kaže, and Alise Dīrika (née Semjonova), who shared a collective enthusiasm for making data more accessible and understandable. Leiterts, a serial entrepreneur with a design background, and Dīrika, a graphic designer with a master's in Human-Computer Interaction, provided the creative and user-centric vision, while Kaže complemented the team's skillset. Their journey began as a notable Latvian startup, quickly gaining international recognition by winning the Hy Berlin pitch contest in January 2013.
Infogram's core business revolves around a web-based platform that allows users without coding skills to transform raw data into engaging charts, infographics, and interactive maps. The business operates on a freemium model, providing a free Basic plan alongside paid subscription tiers such as Pro, Business, Team, and Enterprise, which offer progressively advanced features. This model serves a diverse client base, ranging from media organizations, marketing teams, and corporations to governments, non-profits, and educational institutions. The company generates revenue through these subscriptions, which unlock capabilities like custom branding templates, larger data handling, and enhanced analytics.
The platform's key service is its intuitive WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) drag-and-drop editor. Users can import data from various sources, including files and cloud services, or use an API for real-time data updates. The service boasts an extensive library of over 35 chart types and more than 800 maps, alongside features that support interactivity, such as animations and tooltips. A significant milestone in the company's history was its acquisition by the presentation software company Prezi in May 2017. Following the acquisition, Infogram became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Prezi, continuing its operations and forming a Data Visualization Center of Excellence in Latvia.
