Indus Holdings, Inc. was a vertically integrated cannabis company that commenced operations in 2014 and was officially founded in 2018. The company was established by Robert Weakley, who served as the Chief Executive Officer, and Mark Ainsworth, who held the position of Executive Vice President of Production.
Weakley's background includes co-founding a national cannabis-focused consulting firm, giving him insight into the operational and regulatory complexities of the industry. Ainsworth brought extensive experience in cultivation and production, having previously founded and managed a large-scale cannabis cultivation operation. This combined expertise in business strategy and agricultural production formed the foundation of the company's vertically integrated model.
The company's core business involved the cultivation, extraction, manufacturing, and distribution of cannabis products. It operated primarily within the California and Nevada markets, serving both the medical and adult-use recreational cannabis sectors. Indus Holdings managed its own cultivation facilities, which allowed for control over the quality and consistency of its cannabis inputs.
The business model was centered around producing and selling its own portfolio of cannabis brands, as well as providing manufacturing and distribution services for other cannabis brands. This dual approach allowed the company to generate revenue from its proprietary product sales while also capitalizing on the growth of the broader market by servicing third-party clients. Its brand portfolio included names like Cypress Cannabis, Original Pot Co., and Kaizen.
In late 2021, Indus Holdings underwent a significant transformation, merging with Lowell Herb Co. to become Lowell Farms Inc. This merger was a strategic move to combine Indus's large-scale cultivation and production capabilities with Lowell's established brand recognition, creating a more powerful entity in the California cannabis market. Following the merger, the Indus Holdings identity was phased out in favor of the Lowell Farms Inc. name.
