Idle Stoneage was a play-to-earn (P2E) game that combined a synthetic non-fungible token (NFT) concept with turn-based card gameplay. The game was developed for both web and mobile platforms and was deployed on the KuCoin Community Chain (KCC). The project's team was described as multicultural and cross-industry, with members from Spain, France, and Singapore who possessed experience in game development, operations, and blockchain smart contract development.
The core of the game revolved around players acquiring NFT characters called Heroes, which could be obtained through blind boxes or by purchasing them on an NFT marketplace. These Heroes, each with unique skills and attributes, were used in player-versus-environment (PVE) and player-versus-player (PVP) turn-based card battles to gain experience and compete for prizes. Players could level up, merge, and restore their Heroes to improve their combat effectiveness. The game was designed to be free-to-play, allowing new users to receive free starting Heroes.
The business model was centered on the GameFi space, enabling players to monetize their gaming time. Revenue streams included commissions from the in-game NFT marketplace where players traded Heroes and other items. The in-game economy was powered by two main tokens: SAX, the governance token, and Shell, a reward token. Players could earn these tokens by participating in battles, staking their NFTs or SAX tokens, providing liquidity, and engaging in the game's governance by voting on development decisions. In February 2022, Idle Stoneage announced the completion of a $25 million seed funding round led by KuCoin Ventures, with participation from other blockchain-focused venture capital firms such as Chain Capital and Conflux. The funds were intended for game development, supporting the in-game economy, and marketing efforts. However, the project has since been marked as inactive, with its official website no longer accessible and no on-chain activity detected for an extended period. PitchBook data also lists the company as "Out of Business" as of January 2024.
