Ichthus Venture Capital
Early-stage venture capital for seafood and aquaculture.
Ichthus Venture Capital (IVC) is an investment firm established in 2024 with a focus on early-stage and growth investments within the seafood and aquaculture industry. The firm, based in Trondheim, Norway, operates as a platform to identify and fund companies developing innovations and new technologies that address key challenges and unlock growth opportunities in the sector. IVC is wholly owned by Kverva, an investment company of Gustav Witzoe, the owner of salmon farming giant SalMar. This backing provides IVC with access to a significant industrial network and deep expertise from Kverva's investment team and portfolio companies.
The firm's mission is to invest in the next generation of market leaders that are driving solutions to advance and strengthen the seafood industry. IVC was launched with the goal of investing up to NOK 500 million in a portfolio of 10-15 companies. The team is led by Managing Partner Mats Malvig, who has prior experience with Kverva. In August 2024, IVC announced its first investment in Tidal, a spin-off from Google's parent company, Alphabet, that develops AI technology to improve understanding of fish biology and enhance operational efficiency. More recently, in August 2025, IVC co-led an investment round in Planktonic, a company that has developed a cryopreserved feed for marine hatcheries.
