HyTerra
Hydrogen exploration company with the world first wildcat well specifically targeting natural hydrogen.
Positioned at the forefront of the emerging natural hydrogen sector, HyTerra Ltd is an Australian-based public company focused on the exploration and production of geologic, or 'white', hydrogen and helium. Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Subiaco, Australia, the company was the first to list on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) with a specific focus on natural hydrogen, a resource generated by ongoing geological processes within the Earth. The company's business model centers on acquiring leases, conducting exploration through established oil and gas techniques, and ultimately producing low-carbon fuel and feedstock for industrial clients. HyTerra's revenue generation is anticipated from the sale of extracted hydrogen and helium to nearby industrial offtakers, including ammonia and petrochemical plants.
The company's core operational focus is in the mid-western United States, a region with historical evidence of hydrogen occurrences. Its flagship asset is the 100% owned and operated Nemaha Project in Kansas, which covers approximately 60,000 acres along the Nemaha Ridge, a geological feature considered prospective for both hydrogen and helium. In May 2025, drilling at the Sue Duroche 3 well within this project yielded significant mud gas readings, with hydrogen concentrations reaching up to 96.1% and helium at 5%. The company also holds a 16% earn-in interest in the Geneva Project in Nebraska through a joint development agreement with Natural Hydrogen Energy LLC. HyTerra employs a data-driven exploration strategy, utilizing tools like aerial gravity gradiometry and magnetic surveys to refine subsurface models and identify optimal drilling locations.
HyTerra is led by a team with extensive experience in the oil, gas, and minerals exploration industries. Executive Director and Chief Technical Officer, Avon McIntyre, spent over a decade at Shell in new ventures and energies, where he developed an interest in natural hydrogen. Fellow Executive Director Benjamin Mee brings over 20 years of international oil and gas project delivery experience, including a role as Exploration Manager for Deepwater Africa at Shell. The leadership's background in conventional energy exploration is directly applicable to the techniques used to find and extract geologic hydrogen, providing HyTerra with a strategic advantage in this new energy frontier.
