Hydraquip Hose & Hydraulics provides on-site mobile hydraulic hose repair, assembly, and fitting, alongside a comprehensive range of fluid power products. The company was founded in 1989 as Gatwick Hose Services in Crawley, West Sussex, by Duncan MacBain. MacBain began his career with a mechanical and production engineering apprenticeship and gained experience in technical sales before starting the business. Initially a small local service, the company rebranded to Hydraquip in 1996 as part of its development plans.
The company operates a business model that combines 24/7 on-site services with a network of trade counter branches across the UK. Approximately 60% of its revenue is generated from its mobile services, which include oil replenishment and general hydraulic servicing, serving over 4,000 customers in diverse sectors like construction, waste management, manufacturing, and marine industries. The other 40% comes from selling hydraulic and fluid power products through its branches and online. Hydraquip runs the UK's largest independent fleet of on-site service vans, with a 95% first-time repair success rate. Its growth strategy has been significantly driven by acquisitions, with a structured approach to integrating new businesses to expand its national network.
In March 2022, Hydraquip was acquired by Finning, the world's largest dealer of Cat® equipment, to expand Finning's product support capabilities. Despite the acquisition, the Hydraquip brand name remains. The company has expanded its core operations from solely fluid power products to include bulk hose assembly, hydraulic engineering, on-site engineering, a specialist hydraulic marine division, and the design and construction of hydraulic power units. The marine division handles complex projects, including system redesigns and overhauls for vessels and offshore structures.
